About Lena Rose:

After years of working as a nail technician, Jenny Duranski began to notice a change she couldn’t ignore—her health was declining. Daily exposure to harsh chemicals and toxins common in traditional salons had taken a toll. What once fueled her passion for beauty was now impacting her well-being. Determined to make a change, Jenny transformed her personal struggle into a mission—to create a space where beauty and wellness could thrive. In 2017, that vision became Lena Rose, Chicago’s first green beauty boutique and spa, offering clean, non-toxic products and personalized skincare services. Named after her daughter, Lena Rose is more than a name; it’s a promise to the next generation that beauty and health can coexist, and that a safer, cleaner beauty world begins with the choices we make today.

How We Stay Sustainable:

  • Lena Rose buys only organic ingredients, and ideally local and seasonal when possible

  • Lena Rose also places bulk orders for inventory and supplies to reduce our carbon imprint.

  • Lena Rose is constantly evaluating new research and eliminating product lines that contain known human or environmental pollutants.

  • Lena Rose has a refill station where a selection of home, body and skincare products can be refilled in-store

  • Reduction of single-use disposables when possible. Lena Rose uses washable cotton rounds during facials, and the single-use disposable nail files are plastic-free and made from compressed cardboard. They buy only organic cotton disposables, use birchwood sticks in their facials and waxing services that are compostable. Lena Rose upcycles materials sent in their shipments (i.e. the corn starch packing peanuts that dissolve in water are used as toe separators for pedicures).

  • Lena Rose carries the only USDA certified organic sugar paste for hair removal. It's zero waste and dissolves in water.

  • Lena Rose buys biodegradable nitrile gloves to reduce the impact of single-use.

  • The company uses Zefiro kitchen and bath zero-waste cleaning brushes to keep the space clean.

  • In the spa, there are no jetted tubs on purpose to reduce water waste (in doing this, they use 1 gallon of water vs 3 gallons in conventional pedicures).

  • The Lena Rose website is powered by green hosting, wind-powered servers, and they also choose the closest servers so data travels less.

  • Lena Rose uses technology whenever possible to reduce paper use within the spa: for schedules, contracts, invoicing, ordering, booking etc.

  • The space is designed with secondhand furniture or upcycling materials.

  • They use green cleaning products and sometimes simply baking soda and vinegar.

  • Finally, Lena Rose is a member of the Green Spa Network to pledge their support of environmental initiatives.
